As noted in previous posts regarding Cosmo’s food, I have used Royal Canin Urinary SO (moderate calorie) canned food as an oxalate-free source of vitamins and other essential nutrients that are below the RDA in his homemade food recipe.

Before discussing Cosmo’s diet, let me say that he is doing well. He turned 11 in November 2019 and as of August had no more bladder stones. His hyperlipidemia seems to be under control and the soft stool problem he had for most of 2018 has also abated through the use of daily doses of Tylosin and Metamucil.

Cosmo requires a special diet due to his propensity to form calcium oxalate bladder stones. In addition, he developed hyperlipidemia last year which necessitated a low-fat diet.

Last November I learned that Cosmo, our 9 1/2-year-old Miniature Schnauzer, had hyperlipidemia in addition to his propensity to form calcium oxalate stones in his bladder. He has had three surgeries for the latter condition. I have written several previous posts on our efforts to find a diet which will reduce, if not eliminate, these stones.

Cosmo has had a re-occurrence of his calcium oxalate bladder stones. He has had two bladder surgeries to remove them since November 2014, and now another surgery seems inevitable. His latest crop of stones was found with an x-ray by our vet in late July, but we decided to put off the surgery until they create a problem (e.g., UTIs and/or blood in his urine).

Cosmo was first diagnosed with calcium oxalate stones in August 2014. These were subsequently removed by surgery in November 2014 and he has been on a special diet since the surgery. The diet consisted of a combination of Royal Canin Urinary SO (moderate calorie) and a low oxalate homemade diet.

The incidence of food allergy in cats remain unknown. Some studies indicate that, overall, food allergies are the third most common type of allergy in cats, eclipsed only by allergies to flea bites and inhalants (atopy).

Cancer is becoming more common in senior dogs and the incidence increases with age. Nearly 50 percent of dogs 10 years old and older are now dying of cancer. The role of diet in dogs diagnosed with cancer is important to survival rates.

Thank you for this great product…I have been searching everywhere for an easy way to create complete and balanced meals for my dogs but the books and spreadsheets were too complicated. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!

I have a diabetic cat, and would love to be able to keep track of his nutrition…I think the recipes section will help many diabetic pet owners, because truly that’s the best way to moderate exactly what’s in their diet.

The report in the Reports section is wonderful! Love the NRC comparisons and totals for nutrients like the fatty acids, lets me know instantly if I need to be thinking about adding something like EPA/DHA.

I just wanted to say that I am beyond impressed with what you have done so far with this software. I have been working really hard over the last six months to understand this program and at first it was daunting. At first, I thought that it was quite confusing and the interface was not user friendly. While that may be the case for your average pet owner, I believe that nutrition is not for the faint of heart and takes some serious researching to make sure it is balanced, and this program reflects that.
I recently purchased a diet from a board certified veterinary nutritionist and it didn’t come cheap. I was very disappointed to receive the diet formulation about a month later that only included 3 ingredients and a BalanceIt supplement. While I have no problems with that supplement or company, I know that that diet must have taken this nutritionist all of 5 minutes to put together. However, I was thrilled to discover from an outside source that all of the vitamins and minerals in the recipes that I’ve been compiling from your software are spot on! I guess the point of this is to say that I’ve really been enjoying this program and I am eagerly awaiting the updates. Keep up the good work, you really do have fans out there who see the amount of effort you are putting into this.
